About Me

I am a gnome working in an independent school in London. This is my first professional post, as an assistant librarian. Things that interest me include inclusion, reader development and really obsessive-compulsive cataloguing.

Thing Six - Online Networks

I currently use several online networks: facebook, LinkedIn, and LISNPN. I'm not going to write about facebook however, as I view it as a purely personal network. So I will start with LinkedIn.

LinkedIn

I signed up to LinkedIn last year when I was job-hunting, but never got that involved with it. My profile is thus very sparse and, since I got a job, has been sadly neglected. I do view it primarily as an employment-seeking tool, though I am aware that many people use it more as a general gaining-new-connections, networking wotsit. The website doesn't appeal to me in that way at all - I much prefer the casual networking of twitter. As a result of this Thing, however, I have taken a look at my profile, and spruced it up. Finding a photo of myself looking professional was the hardest bit...

LISNPN

I've also been a member of the LISNPN website for about a year. I must admit I don't go to the website very much, but I do find their tweet feed useful. I've participated in a couple of their forums as well - once, leading to my attendence at a London meet-up. And you can't say better than that.
Again, I don't really use LISNPN for adding new contacts. Indeed, I've barely used the 'friends' feature at all.

LATnetwork

I haven't come across the Librarians as Teachers Network before, but it intrigues me as I have to do a bit of teaching as part of my present role. Incidently, for anyone interested in this site: You can use the same log-in for both LISNPN and LAT. It's a bit early to say whether I will find this site helpful or not - but I have followed the network on twitter as well, so if the worst comes to the worst (and I never go on the site again), I will still recieve their updates and news.
